Live Review: Espa. 'Apartment 2F'

18 September 2014 | 12:01 pm | Darren Ng

British songstress Espa. releases a homely and ethereal track in Apartment 2F before her debut EP release, '150th and Broadway'.

Having been featured on Balistiq's 'Louder' and The Flatbush Zombies 'Red Light, Green Light', Espa is no stranger nor newcomer to the music scene. With her newest track 'Apartment 2F', she proves that she is not just taking a leisurely walk in the park but means proper business as a standalone artist.

'Apartment 2F' is a atmospheric track that features the lush vocals of Espa with a warping helix of a chorus and the undulating ebb and flow of synthesiser parts that will no doubt throw you into the abyssal. This track also sees her dip her feet into the deep end of R&B, her versatility a key quality in her music-writing.

This track stands as a teaser to her newest creation titled 150th & Broadway, an expansive EP that draws on the creativity and talent of the 23-year-old British. Working with both Flatbush Zombies' Erick The Architect and Shift Key has given her an international production back line and both ends of the creativity spectrum. What is neat is the thought and effort that goes into it, down to the EP artwork, video concept and styling are determined and decided by Espa, you can be sure that no stone goes unturned.

The music video is another topic of contention. Espa who features, directs and creates this video has her face painted a myriad of kaleidoscopic colours with the camera hovering around in twirls and circles, producing a mesmerising yet hypnotic effect with her soulful chops taking you on a trip down the boulevards of fantasy town.
