Live Review: Panama 'Always' (Live At Studios 301)

More often than not, a song's live version leaves you wanting to say nothing but, 'Here, just take my heart. Take it all'. This alternate version of beloved 'Always' by PANAMA is no exception.

Though the original is and forever will be a favourite, this new take is an equal competitor for listener's affections. Persian rugs-adorned and every inch looking the intimate musical setting, this recording at Sydney's Studios 301 strips back the 2013 hit and showcases it in a new light.

Echoing guitar effects creates a delicate, ambient introduction before the familiar piano chords slowly ring out,with frontman Jarrah McCleary taking his time in vocal delivery. Though the original provides an indie-pop dance anthem -with its pulsating, steady pace of minor keys and bright synths - this version serves as a beautifully reflective piece, as the falsetto-ridden chorus glides over the sparse arrangement. This new video comes amidst the band's Northern Hemisphere tour, so here's to hoping the guys bring their live shows back home soon.
