Live Review: Illangelo ft. Phlo Finister 'Clockwork' (Official Video)
Illangelo and Phlo Finister's 'Clockwork' has just been transformed into a visual experience with its sparkling new video clip.
When's he's not wearing his "The Weeknd's Executive Producer" name badge, Canadian ILLANGELO is most probably working in his own musical playground; releasing edits, originals and collaborations. Recently releasing his track 'Clockwork' with PHLO FINISTER, the two have just dropped its official video clip.
Directed by Lance Drake, 'Clockwork' breathes a world completely alien to the viewer. Shot in black and white, we learn of battle, holograms and space exploration to be of the norm as these aspects shape the clip's literal. Viewing a fight scene twice with different outcomes of defeat, we learn a lot about identity and the fear of becoming a puppet.
The way this particular video has chosen to portray this is through the inspiration of Ghost In The Shell's thermoptic fight scene, Superman's Phantom Zone, The Blow-Up's plexi photo shoot scene and James Turrell's visual artwork.
Empowering the lyricism delivered by Phlo Finister alongside weeping piano and urgent beats and samples whimpering, speeding, flicking and chasing, nothing about 'Clockwork's sonic or visual realm is in any way calm or apologetic.
