Live Review: Washed Out 'Weightless' (Official Video)

5 June 2014 | 9:26 pm | Adriana Barro

Washed Out's video for 'Weightless' tells the tale of the highs and lows of youth in love.

Ambient chill-wave artist WASHED OUT has released a video for the track 'Weightless' off his most recent album 'Paracosm'. The seven and a half minute mini-movie was directed by David Altobelli, the brains behind clips for artists such CULTS, M83 and SIA.

Ultimately, the clip follows the story of young unrequited love between two males and focuses on the struggles of adolescence by drifting in and out of dream and reality. The clip portrays the unfulfilled emotions of the protagonist, and follows him through everyday situations as well as watching on as he fades into surreal states and plays out fantasies in his mind.

The clip perfectly compliments the distinctly down beat, emotive yet blissful track from WASHED OUT, and through use of colour, slow motion and lighting effects is able to ride the highs and lows in parallel with the music. Altobelli said of the clip that unrequited love is inevitable, and heartbreaking but "it's also just part of being a kid in love" which sets the overall mood that is conveyed throughout 'Weightless'. There is something familiar and relatable in the undertones of this video, and just like the track it is paired with, has an air of enchantment that will have you finding it hard to pull away.
