Taking things down a notch, Nicole Millar took to the 301 Studios in Sydney to do a stripped back, raw performance of her highly acclaimed track ‘Taken’.

NICOLE MILLAR as of late has been a particularly huge name in the Australian dance scene. Teaming up with the likes of PEKING DUK, GOLDEN FEATURES and THE KITE STRING TANGLE, she’s taken her own brand of vocals around the country to stages spanning clubs, gigs and festivals.

Taking things down a notch, and exposing more of her vocal prowess, NICOLE took to the 301 Studios in Sydney to do a stripped back, raw performance of her highly acclaimed track ‘Taken’.

The piano at the introduction of the track opts the direction of the songs feel, and allows it to flow organically. The sweeping melody is delicately tended to and is then paired with an electronic minimalistic sound. The monotonous beep of the synth works so wonderfully in adding dimension to the piano, and creates an entirely different vibe from the original.

NICOLE’s vocals actually force the track in an almost acoustic direction, and it’s fantastic to hear the extent of her vocals being used in an alternative setting. She travels with ease through the melody of the song, and it is the slightly falsetto chorus that the vocals, synth and piano all come together to accentuate the delicacy of the track.

I think the most important aspect of NICOLE’s 301 Studios’ performance is that it’s given an entirely different aspect of her music the spotlight, and it’s refreshing to hear these different sides to her music.
