Live Review: Du Tonc 'Surging Memories' (Kiwi Remix)

15 June 2014 | 12:02 am | Lauren Payne

London producer Kiwi has taken a crack at remixing a Du Tonc classic.

Think back to the very first day you heard of DU TONC. The act was very new to you and with the mix of Mat Van Schie and MIGHTY MOUSE, it was obvious that they were going to be a powerful force.

The boys' singles 'Darkside' and 'Island' became very popular hits and now one of their older tracks is getting a makeover from a few of the bands friends.

DU TONC have announced a new remix EP for their track 'Surging Memories' with a variety of producers putting their mark on the piece. 'Surging Memories' was the second single that DU TONC ever released and with it's remix EP only just arriving, there will no doubt be a lot of nostalgia around.

One producer that has taken a crack at 'Surging Memories' is KIWI. The British producer known as Alex Warren to friends, has been making waves across the internet for quite sometime but his remix of DU TONC will no doubt propel him into the electronic stratosphere.

The original mix for 'Surging Memories' features a pretty mean funk guitar as well as a series of beaming synths that just shine along with the light vocal on the track. The remix seems to keep a few of these elements intact. The original vocal mix is still featured in KIWI's rework as well as the beaming synths, the latter of which has been turned down a tad. KIWI has kept his remix very tame with a beat thumping throughout the track that is only joined by clicking samples later on. Beaming synths become dominant towards the end of the track and basically KIWI has made a very pleasing remix for the boys at DU TONC.

The Surging Memories Remix EP will be released on June 23 with ADAPT OR DIE, ATTAR! and LE VISITEUR all providing their mixes alongside KIWI.
