Live Review: Deers 'Bamboo / Trippy Gum'

9 June 2014 | 8:34 am | Lauren Payne

Madrid duo Deers have two new tracks that will get you ready to groove.

Two talented girls from Madrid have come together and created a musical project called DEERS who are about to release their debut AA single.

Ana Garcia Perrote and Carlotta Cosials have been hard at work writing and recoding a variety of tracks in their recording space but have now decided upon two singles.

With 'Bamboo' and 'Trippy Gum' to be featured on the debut release, you'd probably think that the tracks would sound very organic and sturdy at the same time, the good news is that the tracks are most definitely on the raw side of things.

The pop songs that these girls have created have a lot of the same elements as a sweet summery band you'd probably hear playing at your local house party. There has been a rise of ramshackle pop in Australia and it seems Madrid has plenty of pop talent also with DEERS leading the charge.

'Bamboo' is the first track on the release and it has plenty of relaxed vibes. The twangy guitars follow the drum beat whilst creating some very raw melodic sounds. The vocal track features a variety of harmonies that sound just as relaxed as you'd think they would whilst mixing the lyrics to create unique lines like “I need you to feel like a man when I give you all I am. I know you’re not hungover today, you are classifying your cassettes”.

The second track, 'Trippy Gum' is kind of self explanatory. With a psychedelic swing into things, the track is more of a dreamy collection of melodies and sweet vocals. The guitars twang along to the steady drums just as the did on 'Bamboo' with the added bonus of dipping synths that just create a lighter atmosphere. 'Trippy Gum' is a tamer track than 'Bamboo', which tends to let their creativity do what it will, but both tracks create a wonderful single that will shine a bright light on DEERS for new audiences.

DEERS have a few shows lined up for London but be sure to watch this space as the girls will no doubt be releasing some wonderful new material in the coming months.
