Live Review: Chet Faker '1998' (Roland Tings Remix)

26 June 2014 | 3:55 pm | Alean Penaflor

Chet Faker's '1998' takes a futher trip down chill-road with Roland Tings' remix.

As if this tune couldn't get anymore laid-back, CHET FAKER's current single '1998' takes it further on the down-beat with this remix by fellow Melbournian, ROLAND TINGS.

With a brand new EP, Who U Love, and a debut album set to follow it up later in the year, Rohan Newman aka ROLAND TINGS will also be delivering his signature house grooves in all its subtlety and retro flecks at Splendour In The Grass.

The producer's  '1998' remix is a synth-upped and sonic-warble filled take on the original, with sound elements that wouldn't go astray in a science fiction show's soundtrack. Vocal samples are sparsely used, with CHET FAKER's "We used to be friends, we used to be inner circle..." eased in towards the later portion. The original's 6:09 duration is stretched out to a 6:47 mix with ROLAND TINGS' touch, providing an elongated, acid-trip vibe with the tune.
