Live Review: PREMIERE: Saskwatch 'Born to Break Your Heart' (LANKS Remix)

Taking on SASKWATCH’s track ‘Born To Break Your Heart’, LANKS’ take on the song sees a gentle scape that blends to create a palette of soothing sounds

An artist in his own right, and definitely one of many talents (be it, fronting a seven-piece band or embracing this enigmatic solo project with open arms), Melbourne’s Will Cuming, or LANKS, is nothing short of damn impressive.

With an EP set to be released sometime within the year, LANKS is certainly keeping himself busy. With that being said, we here at Purple Sneakers are more than overjoyed to be premiering the successive addition to his ever-growing collection of works.

Taking on fellow Melbournians, SASKWATCH and their single ‘Born To Break Your Heart’, LANKS’ take on the track sees the addition of a gentle scape of sounds that blend to create an initial palette of beats, somber synths and warm undertones. I think the tentative nature of the sounds at the beginning makes the second half of the song feel dream-like, particularly after the splash of synths hint at the relaxed warmth of the oncoming outro. It is this, paired with the raw, almost fixating vocals of front-woman NKECHI ANELE, which adds a haunting glow to the songs scapes.

The track as a whole, feels like a rainy day. Cool, calming, and yet, there is a subtlety that hints at a warmth and comfort that you’d only feel at such a time. LANKS has turned a purely instrumental driven pop-track into something completely innovative and stunning in its own genre’s respect.
