Live Review: WATCH: Chet Faker '1998' (Official Video)

17 April 2014 | 10:46 am | Lauren Payne

Chet Faker has released a brand new music clip for his track '1998' and it's full of stop-motion animated goodness.

We've always loved the soothing vocals of Melbourne producer/songwriter CHET FAKER. His unique mix of soul and brooding electronica have paved the way for this man's domination of Australian music and of course he hasn't totally been doing it alone.

Lending his vocals to FLUME's track 'Left Alone' on his astounding debut made everyone ask who this man was before they fell in love with him whilst listening to his EP 'Thinking In Textures'. With tracks like 'Terms And Conditions' making our day feel cooler than usual, CHET FAKER crept into our lives and hasn't really left since.

Since that initial EP FAKER has released a collaborative EP with FLUME entitled Lockjaw which just blew up and finally, after over a year of popping in and out of the studio, he finally released his debut album Built On Glass. The album has only released one track so far, the breathtaking 'Talk Is Cheap' and now with the second track '1998' making waves across the internet.

The new video is a full animation which features cute bursts as the percussion samples enter into '1998'. Soon you see a small figure in the distance and the animation zooms in on the figure as you hear CHET's signature vocals ring on in. The stop-motion keeps in sync with '1998' throughout the entire clip and it's quite nice seeing little dashes swiftly jump across the screen as the figure, who has now revealed itself to be an animation of CHET FAKER, strolls quietly forwards. Shadows dance across the figure as other little additions to the animation dance around him and as the song soon begins to build, the animations suddenly take on a series of colours making it even more lively than before.

The whole video seems to suit the calm, yet exciting melodies in his music that we have come to adore. 'Built On Glas's is itself a great album and '1998', one of it's best tracks. If you haven't had the chance to hear the album yet you can purchase it from iTunes here, thanks to the guys at Future Classic.
