Live Review: PREMIERE: Beni 'Bang Gang Mix Tape'

A year after our dear friend, legend of Australian house music and founder of Sweat It Out! label Adrian 'AJAX' Thomas passed away, his friends and ex-BANG GANG members all decided that a fair tribute was needed.

Everybody was shocked by the news of his death back in 2013 and earlier this year, the boys from BANG GANG decided to celebrate the life of AJAX by embarking on an Australian reunion tour with parties thrown in true AJAX style.

BENI, one of the original BANG GANG members and a Modular Recordings staple, has created a Bang Gang Mix Tape, to immortalise his experience on the tour and the tracks that he played at each stop. Travelling to Sydney, Melbourne, Byron Bay, Gold Coast and finally Brisbane, the producer played brilliantly nostalgic DJ sets that got everyone dancing to the tracks they remember from the last millennium and beyond. A fantastic idea, here's what BENI himself had to say about the mix,

"On behalf of my BANG GANG brothers I thought I would give you this mix in celebration of AJAX as a DJ and a friend. A small piece of the BANG GANG parties in honour of such a man, this is 27 minutes you would have heard throughout the night at any of the parties with your pants around your ankles."

Some artists featured on BENI's tape are of course the ones who assisted in making the nineties ever so great. DAFT PUNK were at their peak with 'Discovery' and so two of their tracks are featured on BENI's tape, along with some of our favourites from the early 2000's who are still going strong now, such as the boys of MAJOR LAZER.

Either way remembering the great times is something we all love to do and BENI is remembering an amazing time when a band of friends came together to remember one of the greats.
