Live Review: LISTEN: Yeo 'Kobe'

10 April 2014 | 1:32 pm | Lauren Payne

Melbourne producer YEO has returned with a brand new single that may just have the power to become more popular than his previous release 'Girl'.

YEO, the Melbourne producer you may not have heard from in a while, has finally released a brand new track that you will have on constant repeat.

Last year Yeo dropped a track called 'Girl' that was praised by blogs and radio stations everywhere, with the Triple J crew giving it about 10 thumbs up. It has become Yeo's most popular release to date with over 100,000 plays on Soundcloud,  but his new track may overtake the play total 'Girl' very quickly.

'Girl' was heavily influenced by R&B and just throbs with a suave coat of synths and deeper vocals that just make it sound sexy, but his new track 'Kobe' tends to venture in a very different direction. We've already said that Yeo is one artist you should look out for in 2014 and if you were lucky enough to catch him live when he was touring with FRACTURES or GLASS ANIMALS, then you'll know exactly what we've been saying.

With light flickering synths, Yeo has created the perfect escape song with 'Kobe'. The vocals echo across the shimmering melody that utilises soft percussion and beaming synths to create a sort of warm feeling inside you that would resemble the feeling of watching a sunrise. 'Kobe' dips it's toes into the synth-pop category but still keeps to the intellectual code that Yeo so successfully presented in 'Girl', this man knows what he's doing and he's going to make sure you know it.

'Kobe' is to be featured on Yeo's forthcoming debut EP which unfortunately has no details floating around just yet.
