Live Review: LISTEN: Roland Tings 'Floating On A Salt Lake'

26 April 2014 | 8:50 pm | Lauren Payne

Roland Tings has returned with a brand new track called 'Floating On A Salt Lake'.

It's been quite a while since we've heard from Melbourne producer ROLAND TINGS. Last year the artist announced a world tour, which took him across New Zealand, China and a variety of other countries where he drew some pretty large crowds.

This was not long after releasing his two sided single Tomita's Basement/Cagean Sea and since then, TINGS has been hard at work mixing, recording and just getting things done and now we have 'Floating On A Salt Lake' to listen to.

Although ROLAND TINGS, aka Rohan Newman, has been in the studio he has still been playing a handful of live shows because that is his preferred form of promotion. The producer finds it better to just perform his tracks live in a lively space and if you were listening to 'Floating In A Salt Lake' in one of these spaces, with technicolor lights flashing before your eyes, you would definitely be able to take it in better than just through a pair of speakers.

Light percussion brings in the track before a series of quick hand claps are brought in with a bubbling synth melody. This is ROLAND TINGS at his best presenting his retro house grooves in such a delicate way that it paints a picture of where you should be when you listen to it. 'Floating On A Salt Lake' spreads over seven minutes and as it slowly builds itself up we are taken by surprise when all of a sudden there is a brief drop before the track reaches it's climax.

'Floating On A Salt Lake' is definitely one of ROLAND TINGS' best offerings and thankfully we can now add the track to our collection of beloved TINGS tracks.
