Live Review: LISTEN: Jamie xx 'Girl'

Jamie xx releases second half of new single, the track entitled 'Girl'.

It was only last month that JAMIE XX released the lush, dreamy soundscapes of ‘Sleep Sound’, a B-side that had its listeners in an electro-lullaby daze.

Now, the UK's Young Turks signed producer has premiered the other half of his ‘Girl’/’Sleep Sound’ single, ‘Girl’. Set for release in Australia on the 2nd of May, ‘Girl/’Sleep Sound’ is notably the DJ/producer/The xx member’s first solo release since 2011, when he made his solo debut single ‘Far Nearer’.

Albeit a contrasting, more upbeat counterpart to its predecessor, 'Girl' has its head-bop inducing bassline, muted leads and delicate vocal samples all swirled into a shimmery, sauntering melody that drives the track's entirety. It's nothing less of what's expected from JAMIE xx, so the release of the 'Girl'/'Sleep Sound' single also raises even more interest for what and when there's more solo releases to come from him.
