Live Review: LISTEN: Todd Terje ft. Bryan Ferry 'Johnny & Mary' (Robert Palmer Cover)

25 March 2014 | 3:22 pm | Hannah Galvin

Todd Terje and Bryan Ferry have joined forces to reimagine Robert Palmer's 'Johnny & Mary'.

Approaching early April with much anticipation, Norwegian producer TODD TERJE will be dropping his debut full-length It's Album Time! through Olsen Records. Alongside released tracks such as 'Strandbar' and 'Dolorean Dynamite', featuring on the album is a very special cover of ROBERT PALMER's 'Johnny & Mary'; now available for all to hear.

Lending the help of Roxy Music frontman and solo artist BRYAN FERRY, the two artists have deconstructed Palmer's 1980 cult-classic 'Johnny & Mary' into an elongated, down-tempo kit of low, breathy vocals, gentle beats and a distilled hum of moderate production work.

Although slowly growing in layer building, the instrumentation at times pulls away, like the teasing shoreline of the ocean temporarily wetting the blanket of sand's trim. Containing a combination of sounds home to both the 21st Century and the era that the original version was born into, Todd Terje is awarded great praise for his personal adaptation of Robert Palmer's 'Johnny & Mary'.
