Live Review: LISTEN: Dream Koala 'Iron' (Woodkid Cover)

7 February 2014 | 12:03 am | Nick Luke

Yung Paris via Berlin leftfield shoegazer DREAM KOALA releases his rendition of WOODKID's 'Iron'.

Paris via Berlin resident and feel-inducing singer/songwriter/producer DREAM KOALA has released an audio present via his SoundCloud as a thank you to everyone for letting his video for 'Odyssey' reach 100k views. Whatta nice guy.

DREAM KOALA brings us his rendition of WOODKID's modern day classic tune 'Iron'. Stripping the tune down to bare bones, and filling the spaces with just his voice, sparse guitar musings, and drum machine samples, DREAM KOALA's cover of 'Iron' is a beautifully haunting example of when future shoegaze meets leftfield electronic music.

Slowly building in momentum over it's relatively short 3 minute lifespan, 'Iron' is drenched in slippery reverb whilst the silken tones of KOALA's electric guitar drape over the cold drum beat like velvet over a stone sculpture.

As a part of the description for the song, and his parting words, DREAM KOALA briefly instructs "stay positive, love the nature and stay based." Words of wisdom, yung K.
