Live Review: SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: Fractures

17 January 2014 | 1:21 pm | Nick Luke

We sit down with our buddy FRACTURES from Melbourne to discuss his latest fav tunes in the newest edition of our SOUNDCLOUD WRAP series.

Solo producer from ye olde Melbs-town, FRACTURES has been making waves with his hauntingly beautiful sounds, combining leftfield electronica with sensibilities of post-rock and alternative indie.

We managed to go one-on-one with the rising force that is FRACTURES and pick his brain about some of his fav tunes at the moment for a brand spankin' new edition of our SOUNDCLOUD WRAP series.

Read on, dear reader!

I'LLS 'Mine's Here Or My End's Here Or Nineteen' (KTSCHE Remix)

'I'm already a big fan of I'LLS stuff, helps that Andrei (KTSCHE) put his touch on the originals, but even more satisfying to hear his own creative spin on the original. Anything with his name on it is guaranteed to sound amazing.'

ELIZABETH ROSE 'Sensibility'

'This is a freshy - wasn't sure what direction ELIZABETH would take after 'Good Life' but this is right up my alley. What sets her apart, for me personally, is the chord choices and that melody is incredible. Hook-city.'

ELROY 4.0 & THE KITE STRING TANGLE 'Trinkets'

'Percussion x Ambience x mellow vocal = tick from me. Not something I'd call a pop classic but that doesn't make it any less satisfying.'

JON HOPKINS 'A Drifting Up'

'More ambience, more percussion. I've been a bit slow on the uptake with this guy but quickly falling in love. Platonically.'

KING KRULE 'Octopus'

'Another guy I was late to - actually won me over when I read his lyrics rather than hearing his music. His voice definitely reeled me in but also the breadth of styles he covers really impressed me. It's pretty seamless.'

ST. VINCENT 'Digital Witness'

'I've tried many times to genuinely like St. Vincent, this is the first time I haven't had to play the song to death to 'get it'. Still a bit of influence lingering from the David Byrne album, works in her favour on this track.'

APPARAT 'A Violent Sky'

'I'd always thought of Apparat as another producer I could do without but after The Devil's Walk album came out I was hooked. His music has influenced me more than I'd care to mention. The dynamics and arrangements are flawless.'

MARTIN KING 'Game Over' ft. SPLEEN

'It surprised me that I enjoyed this one. Not something I'd typically listen to but I can't deny that dirty beat. Pure dirt. Love it.'

BANOFFEE 'Reign Down'

'Anything with Oscar Key Sung attached is a good thing in my books. This is understated but it hangs in the head.'
