Live Review: LISTEN: Cassian 'Survivor' + 'The Ninth'

So far December has been an exceptionally fantastic month for Australian electronic music, especially through the SWEAT IT OUT! label, and long time label resident and Sydney-sider CASSIAN is keeping that December trend going strong with the release of his spectacular '8 Voices' EP. Cue the music!

The '8 Voices' EP is a white-hot slab of pure house grooves, with cutting percussions, melting synths and tectonic bass. 'Survivor' is the more garage-house orientated track of the two, and boy is it a banger.

Built for DJs, this house track feels like a throwback to the Strictly Rhythm days, especially with the organ riffs spliced into the deep grooves of the track, before making way for the puncturing bass pulses that rivet the bulk of the tune.

'The Ninth' is the less-heavy of the two, and feels built for more after-hours activity, yet still contains grooves worthy of serious dancefloor shenanigans.

Rich synths saturate the track, smothered with reverb, 'The Ninth' draws out long passages of synth bridges between drops, soaking up every second of its time in the spotlight before diving right back into its locked grooving pattern.
