Trading kebabs and Vietnamese food for recording opportunities never tasted so good. Check out local Sydney-siders Palms.

Trading kebabs and Vietnamese food for recording opportunities never tasted so good. Local Sydney-siders PALMS, made note of settling neatly into 2013 with their own blend of hot licks, riffs and heart shredding lyrics.

Equipped with their debut LP, Step Brothers, they got some pretty sweet airtime on Triple J and Triple J Unearthed, as well as playing alongside the likes of Aussie giants DZ DEATHRAYS and BORED NOTHING. It’s very safe to say that 2013 was nothing short of a “smash hit”.

Taking influence from the laidback riffs of PAVEMENT and the upbeat nature of THE REPLACEMENTS, paired with their dreamy combination of fuzz-rock, killer attitudes that scream i-don’t-care and their knack for piecing together a variety of brilliances, Step Brothers is innovative, methodical and messy all at the same time.

As a freshman album, tracks like Love and A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again really set the tone for the band’s defining sound.

2014 will see the boys touring with THE GOOCH PALMS for the nine-date Palmarama tour, as well as seeing them continue to slay the lo-fi scene around Australia as the year progresses. But, that’s not to say that with this massive year behind them, I’m only more curious to see what 2014 will bring for and get from PALMS.
