ARTISTS TO WATCH IN 2014: Oisima

3 January 2014 | 12:00 am | Hannah Galvin

Oisima is an artist we've been following for a little while now. Ready to release his debut LP, we're waiting for him to erupt into the big time come 2014.

He’s released a track called ‘Everything About Her’, but today it’s more a focus on the composer himself. Known to his buddies as Anth Wendt, he goes musically under the moniker OISIMA and is definitely an artist to be looking out for in 2014.

Creating a blend of jazzy melodies, elemental synth work and hip hop beats expelled in a soothing ambient soundscape, his music is truly one of a kind, and a joy to listen to at that. The Adelaide man first performed live at Lost City Festival, where he showcased the beginnings of this signature sound. Since then, he’s scored some pretty sweet support slots, as he’s warmed up the stage for a range of talent, including the likes of XXYYXX, Ras G, Knwledge, Tokimonsta, Mo Kolours, Flako and DJ Neil Armstrong and has played festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Astral People’s OutsideIn and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

A visit to his Soundcloud page will enable you access to chapters of his work, including two EPs and the Jewels Of Thought mixtape series that started as an exclusive live mix for Triple J’s Sound Lab. On top of this, you’ll stumble across his song ‘Everything About Her’ (featuring Annabel Weston) – the first single from his forthcoming debut album Nicaragua Nights due for release early 2014. This particular track has dined with national radio, received a stack of blog love and has been remixed by Ta-ku and Sweatson Klank.

Supported by a growing fanbase, Oisima is managed by live music collective the Hand Games and has been signed to Berlin-based label Herbede Records.

Preparing to support New Yorker Bonobo on his Australian The Northern Borders Tour, the accessibility of seeing Oisima perform live is only becoming greater; so make sure you head along and admire the work  [and fantastic beard] of this very talented artist – one we’re waiting to see grow substantially in the coming year.
