Live Review: WATCH: Pond 'Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone) (Official Video)

27 November 2013 | 9:39 am | Hannah Galvin

Perth legends Pond have released the official video to Hobo Rocket's closing song 'Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)'.

Perth tastemakers POND released their fifth studio album Hobo Rocket in August this year. Although already talking about its follow up Man, It Feels Like Space Again, they're not completely finished with their most recent release.

Not only are they about to kick off Hobo Rocket's only official tour, they've just dropped the clip to the albums final track, 'Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)'.

Created by Jesse Smith and Jenna Eriksen, the video is a combination of both an exciting news segment as well as the live audience of an important sendoff of the "Hobo Rocket". Shot with a 1985 VHS tube video camera, we view the video through a grainy, discoloured lens as the clip has been set to the same year as the recording devices model.

As we listen to 'Midnight Mass', we watch a crowd beam with excitement as Pond frontman/astronaut Nick Allbrook steps into the town's famous spacecraft. Moments later, this group of cheer turn into a state of despair as a confronting turn of events leave them shocked and devastated. With this tragedy aired in the live broadcast, the newsreader aims to keep her cool before breaking down on air. A clip that started as a humorous insight of how we looked a few decades ago, it quickly turns into a timeless reaction of a horrible outcome. Packed with mixed emotions, watch the clip for yourself whilst treating 'Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)' as its very own soundtrack.
