Live Review: SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: Yuck

6 November 2013 | 11:22 am | Hannah Galvin

We were lucky enough to have UK outfit Yuck feature as this weeks Soundcloud Wrap guests!

English band YUCK have had quite an eventful year. Since losing Daniel Blumberg from the group earlier 2013, the trio recruited their new guitarist Ed Hayes, recorded their highly impressive sophomore album and released it through Caroline Records just last month under the title 'Glow & Behold'.

They've been on tour since September, playing their new material to fans all over Europe and the UK as well as supporting the legendary PIXIES for a few European shows in October, all before heading over to North America early next year. Obviously incredibly busy, the lads and lady were kind enough to feature as our Soundcloud Wrap guests for the week, as they've selected their top ten favourite tracks for us.

So without further ado, here is YUCK's top ten Soundcloud picks!

POLTERGHOST 'Holy Smoke'

"Here's a new band from London that we're all very much in love with called Polterghost. They have incredible riffs and their guitarist can shred like a motherfucker. They're incredible live too. Check them out if you can!"

POST LOUIS 'Your Hotel'

"Post Louis are another new band from London, their songs are really beautifully crafted and have an incredible sense of fragility. Their lead singer's voice is absolutely stunning as well."

JOANNA GRUESOME 'Secret Surprise'

"A band I know little about, I heard them on the All Songs Considered podcast and really liked them. I know they're from Cardiff and they have a hilarious band name. But they're really good. Check them out!"

HOOKWORMS 'Radio Tokyo'

"Hookworms are from Leeds, I really like their sound. Its kind of psychedelic and their sound kind of reminds me of early Spiritualized stuff. You don't see too many bands using organs nowadays! I hear they're really good live too."

PORCELAIN RAFT 'The Way Out'

"Porcelain Raft is one of my favourite new acts at the moment. This song is absolutely incredible, this beat is pretty infectious and I find this song addictive to listen to. A little known fact, our drummer Jonny Rogoff played on this track!"

EAGULLS 'Nerve Endings'

"We played with these guys at CMJ about 3 times, they're another band from the UK. They're really good and have amazing energy. They kind of remind me of early Magazine or something. I love it."

BECK 'Gimme'

"Here's a new song by Beck, its such a bizarre song but it really works for me! Sounds like a weird modern gamelan composition or something. It kind of sounds like how I imagine alien pop music would sound. Check it out!"

CATE LE BON 'Time Could Change Your Mind'

"This song is absolutely beautiful, from the Welsh singer Cate Le Bon. I first found out about her because she played with Gruff Rhys once upon a time. This track has really natural and warm sounding production, and the simplicity of the lyrics 'time could change your mind' makes me feel really emotional."

PIXIES 'Bag Boy'

"Here's a new song from the Pixies! We just came off a small tour with them, whenever they played this song it was the most exciting moment of their set for me. I love it, its so snarling and almost sarcastic. Dave Lovering's drums sound incredible too!"

SUPERCHUNK 'FOH'

"Finally, here's a new song from one of my favourite bands of all time, Superchunk! They must be one of the only bands who have been making almost the same kind of music for the whole of their career but seem to find a way to keep making awesome and fresh sounding new tracks. Here's one of them! Its amazing!"
