Live Review: LISTEN: What So Not 'Touched'

7 November 2013 | 2:40 pm | Nick Luke

LISTEN to the latest track 'TOUCHED' from Sydney super-duo WHAT SO NOT.

The boys are back! Just a few months since their first blistering EP 'The Quack' featuring heat from Queens, NY-native Action Bronson, local Sydney-siders Harley & Emoh aka WHAT SO NOT have returned with a new single track entitled 'Touched', and it's up for free download - come git sum!

WHAT SO NOT are a super-duo, consisting of two of Sydney's major talents - Flume & Emoh Instead respectively. They've been very busy this past few months, keeping a steady stream of new material flowing through each of their solo projects - with Flume setting up to release the whopping 4-disc deluxe version of his debut album, and with Emoh releasing his debut EP 'Say So' out on Aussie label Sweat It Out!.

It's hard to imagine how these guys have barely any time to eat & sleep, let alone make such cracking tracks under the WSN guise in such a small space of time.

The track is a stunning display of dense sound-construction, 'Touched' perfectly showcases the specific styles between each producer. The trademark hazy Flume chords and droning vocal samples that flow throughout the track, coupled with the vast synth drops and booming bass torrents stamped with an Emoh Instead tinge ebb & flow throughout the tracks lifespan.

'Touched' combines the style of the two producers perfectly, I would even say it's a better example of this than what appears on 'The Quack' EP (even though that's still super good, btw).

Described as the idea for a track that originally sparked the formation of WHAT SO NOT little over 3 years ago, 'Touched' feels like the boys have come full circle to get back to the essence of what their styles are, and you can definitely tell.
