Live Review: WATCH: Portugal The Man 'Modern Jesus' (Alt-J Remix)

5 October 2013 | 11:38 am | Lauren Payne

Alt-J's Thom Green has remixed Portugal The Man's track 'Modern Jesus' to a video of Alt-J being turned into "evil friends".

The summer festival season has officially kicked off with Listen Out travelling across the nation and many more events to follow in it's footsteps. One such festival is long-running Australian favourite Big Day Out and at the moment, most of it's featured artists this time round are busy touring already.

PORTUGAL THE MAN is one act on the bill for 2014, since the release of their track 'Modern Jesus' the band have been hard at work touring around the United States.

There have been big things happening under the radar, with the newest project to emerge being an ALT-J remix to the dramatic 'Modern Jesus'. It's an interesting collaboration with member Thom Green taking the reins of this remix and driving it forward.

The ALT-J remix is quite the opposite of the original. It still has an impact on you, however the impact is a lot more relaxed and smooth. The wonderful vocals still push through the track and Thom Green really has taken 'Modern Jesus' and put kind on an eerie atmosphere over the top of it. The video accompanying the remix is quite interesting too.

The music video for this remix features PORTUGAL. THE MAN's very own John Gourley doing his signature Evil Friends illustration on top of a picture of ALT-J. Now if you've had your picture transformed into an evil friend, then you should feel quite honoured as I think Green does. Using it as the basis for the remix, makes both the images and the music flow together wonderfully projecting a fantastic mood off the screen, creating something enthralling to watch.
