Live Review: LISTEN: What So Not 'High You Are' (Motez Remix)

16 October 2013 | 10:32 am | Hannah Galvin

Adelaide dude Motez has taken What So Not's vocal mix of 'High You Are' and altered it to call his own.

What was initially released as an experiment, WHAT SO NOT's original vocal mix of 'High You Are' has been remixed by Adelaide house producer extraordinaire MOTEZ.

The What So Not boys originally stated,

"We wanted to take the concept of groove based house & push it to the extreme. Something that could hold its own, against the biggest 'EDM' hit, without compromising the feel and soul. The power to make people move, not just fist pump."

We feel that they accomplished this, but with that came room for interpretation. Sticking to the same sort of structure, mainly due to the barely-touched vocals, Motez's mix has kept the dignity of 'High You Are', yet has reconstructed the production to call it his own.

Motez has managed to substantially alter the mood of 'High You Are'. No longer does it travel along the punchy and explosive beat ridden road, it now trots though a darker marsh, at times expelling thick synths to substitute concise beats and high-spirited samples from What So Not's original. In total though, it's still more than worthy of a spin at any decent club, as it too carries a rich, well-equipped vibe for those who wish to feel the music.

You can catch both Motez and What So Not, as well as SUFUR (RUFUS DJs), Yolanda Be Cool and Frames at Sydneys Club 77 this Friday, 18th October for the official RUFUS Atlas Tour after party.

Doors open at 11pm and require a small entry fee of $10!
