Live Review: LISTEN: Geoffrey O'Conner 'Jacqueline'

14 September 2013 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Geoffrey O'Connor is back with his new single 'Jacqueline' that fuses a bit of funk with dance and disco.

With the sudden rise in disco, the mixture of disco and funk was bound to make a comeback as well. GEOFFREY O'CONNOR has definitely helped initiate that revival with his new single and it's smooth synths and catchy vocals.

Previously being the frontman of CRAYON FIELDS, GEOFFREY O'CONNOR put down his guitar for a little bit and decided to take a stab at releasing some solo work, as many people do when of course they feel like branching out in different directions.

There are many members of bands who have released solo work. DU TONC comes to mind as do many others, who are all artists who feel like the band thing is great, but they need something that lets them stretch their legs. GEOFFREY O'CONNOR has jumped into a more disco scene with his solo work that also shows elements of pure dance, and lighter funk. His new track 'Jacqueline' shows all of these elements melting together with an airy synth floating on top of it all, bringing the track together.

GEOFFREY O'CONNOR definitely has a talent for this sort of genre as 'Jacqueline' tends to shine like a nice warm sun on a wintery day. I would say a summer's day, but this track feels like it's more suited to a winter's day, the one where you're perfectly content with the world. The synths have a nostalgic eighties aura that you can hear as 'Jacqueline' pushes on. That small detail kind of adds to the songs appeal and just brings out the sweeter side.

With 'Jacqueline' released on Bandcamp, the bidding for this great tune starts at a mere one dollar, so you can go right ahead and purchase the track for a cheap as price. GEOFFREY O'CONNER is currently working on a debut album which is to be released hopefully, in 2014. CRAYON FIELDS are also working on some new material so I think in the coming months, GEOFFREY O'CONNER is going to be a very busy guy.
