Live Review: EXCLUSIVE: Crocodiles 'Crimes Of Passion' Album Stream + Giveaway

21 August 2013 | 8:06 pm | Lauren Payne

San Diego punk duo Crocodiles are about to release their new record Crimes Of Passion and we have a few copies to giveaway to some lucky peeps.

Across the waves in sunny ol' San Diego, California there is a garage band that are making some pretty rad tunes that definitely need a listen. The band in question is CROCODILES, and yes, their namesake actually doesn't dwell in their home country so obviously crocodiles are better than alligators.

CROCODILES' previous album Endless Flowers was described by singer Brandon Welchez as "very urgent" and most definitely sounds it, but their new release Crimes Of Passion definitely is a lot more laid-back and reminds you of an earlier WAVVES on first listen. CROCODILES however should not be compared to their fellow countrymen too much, the duo definitely have their own smooth sound going on which you can hear on Crimes Of Passion. Of course if you don't believe me, we have an exclusive stream of Crimes Of Passion here to let you all listen to.

The album is full of twangy guitars that reprise a laid back summer's day with some distorted vocals making their mark atop the instruments. The light drum beat is very steady in the track 'Heavy Metal Clouds' and also pretty cruisey in 'Cockroach' and the album's opener 'I Like It In The Dark'. I feel that now is the perfect moment to tell you that CROCODILES definitely have interesting names for their tracks, so don't be too surprised about what you find hidden in the stream.

'Teardrop Guitar' pulls together the best sounds of the late seventies and early eighties, think STONE ROSES with a little of THE CLASH thrown in. CROCODILES have said that they're more interested in music from those particular eras, so it's not surprising that they would have at least one track that sounds like it was written, recorded, and then hidden for the past few decades only to surface here in the middle of 2013.

'She Splits Me Up' is a bit more of a melodic track with the guitars taking the reigns, and 'Gimmie Some Annihilation' is a bit of a punch in the face, in general though Crimes Of Passion is a very crunchy record and what could be better?

Crimes Of Passion will be released here in Australia on August 13 and to celebrate, we here at PURPLE SNEAKERS are going to be a bit generous and give away a copy of CROCODILES' new album to five lucky peeps who really want it. To win all you crazy cats have to do is place your name and email in the comment section below and the lucky five will be picked from those comments! Pretty sweet deal don't you think?
