Adored not only on there native English soil, FOALS are certainly unfamiliar with the term disappointment. The Oxford lads have recently launched an epic music video, cleverly directed by NABIL, to accompany ‘Bad Habit’ the latest single from their third studio album.

The video follows front man Yannis Philippakis awakening alone on the plains of an expansive desert as he struggles through the immensity of his surroundings, all the while enticing viewers with his rugged and unshaven appearance.

An enchanting redhead, the only other figure to inhabit the artificial, yet visually stimulating environment is one whom Yannis endeavors to reach, despite her neglect to dress in appropriate attire, or to be straightforward any attire at all. Accompanied by the intricate instrumental layers of ‘Bad Habit’ Yannis desperately drags his feet towards his naked redhead, who strolls through the uncertainty of the desert with haunting ease, holding within her body the ability to blossom flowers from the sand over which she walks.

‘Bad Habit’s’ official video is host to elements of symbolic beauty, as the popular FOALS front man overcomes various impediments, whose visual uniqueness keeps the audiences’ eyes glued to screen. The video reaches its climax within its dying moments as Yannis, upon reaching the object of his desire collapses in front of her only to witness her figure dissolve into the surroundings she inhabited.

This questions both her existence and the sanity of the man who attempted to reach her. Yet the brilliancy and creativity of FOALS is not one easily questioned as the sheer allure of clip combined with tantalizing vocals and penetrating sounds makes the 4 and half minutes of this video seem far too brief. The consistent musical intensity and experitise of FOALS is habit, which we hope is one they never shake.
