Live Review: LISTEN: Joe Goddard 'She Burns' ft. Mara Carlyle

HOT CHIP's JOE GODDARD has continued to keep himself busy on his solo material, as Taking Over - the follow up EP to 2011's Gabriel - is starting to feel closer and closer to its release. The highly anticipated EP has kindly given us an idea of what to expect through Taking Over's first single, 'She Burns' with vocals by MARA CARLYLE.

The bassline dominates in this track; from its rushed breakthrough to the slowed-down charge. Stomping its way through, it picks up a clean synth line (that is hit as though its made up of a series of bells), as well as a chattery sound that seems to be a snare drum played with retractable wire drum brushes.

As soon as Carlyle enters, she trods on the basslines steez as the vocalist steals the spotlight entirely. Her powerful voice provides justice to the lyricism that holds the desire of running away from a huge mistake.

Charging through the tune, the energy of Carlyle's voice is uplifted through the accompaniment of different synth samples that temporarily pile themselves onto the track's strong structure.

With dates yet to be announced, Joe Goddard's Taking Over EP will be released via Greco-Roman hopefully some time this year!
