Live Review: WATCH: Empire Of The Sun 'Discovery' (Album Teaser)

12 March 2013 | 2:00 pm | Hannah Galvin

Finally, after five years of waiting, Empire Of The Sun have given us notice of their sophomore album 'Ice On The Dune' in a short movie trailer style.

EOTS

It's been a long time since we've heard from Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore - the duo who make up Australian electro-glam-pop band EMPIRE OF THE SUN.

Since releasing their phenomenal debut album Walking On A Dream back in 2008, the two shared a moment of glory as they watched their album flourish in all of its success, eventually going platinum in Australia. Since then though, we haven't really heard anything as to what the band were to do next - until now.

They've just clarified that they'll be releasing their sophomore album Ice On The Dune this coming June! But what better way to announce such an exciting occasion than to release a short trailer for the record?

Titled 'Discovery', the clip features a group of archaeologists, exploring an old cave.

One in particular fashions a large amulet around his neck which becomes a motif in this 3 minute clip.

After being hysterically confronted by a fellow archaeologist, the man is led into the depths of a cave. During his entrance, he passes by the serious faces of the other explorers.

By the end of it all, he is faced with historic cave paintings of the "Empire Of The Sun" - a god like figure wearing a crown identical to the man's medallion.

It is at this point that we're introduced to a small dose of brand new music from the Australian duo as the short film introduces both Steele and Littlemore to the whole equation. Steele is also fashioning this headpiece.

Not only the clip, but a short narrative to support this tale has been released by the band, reading,

"Greetings Empyreans

Archaeologists have uncovered interglacial cave paintings deep within a rock shelter in Mexico's Guerrero Peninsula. The paintings date between 4,200 and 8,000 years ago, making them the most important finding of the millennia. The site was previously believed to be the birthplace of La Llorona, or "The Weeping Woman".

"This must have been a place of memory", said Ramon Fortunato, an archaeologist at the University of Monterrey, of the site. " The people of this region may have kept it secret, in order to harness its power".

Inhabitants from the area are thought to be directly related to the "Empire of the Sun", responsible for protecting the Earth from catastrophe for generations.

Update: Further research has concluded that the cave is the meeting point of the leylines of synchronicity. The find has been praised by heads of state and notable scientists, and a meeting of world leaders has been called in Geneva, Switzerland."

Although this is all fictional, it's symbolic that this release is kind of a huge deal.

With this first look of what the sophomore is to offer, keep an eye out for more information on the lead up to Ice On The Dune, set to be released this June!
