Live Review: LISTEN: Guerre 'Rashad (Loose Place)' & 'For Qwanisha' (Remix Package)

13 March 2013 | 9:00 am | Hannah Galvin

Melbourne duo Forces and US solo artist Parisian have each taken a Guerre track and remixed it to make it their own.

GUERRE

Sydney producer GUERRE is an artist who has been known to create beautiful soundscapes through the use of his production skills.

Having released tracks and remixes that all pertain a certain element of uniqueness and mystique, as well as prove his ability of collaboration after working with groups and artists such as Collarbones and The Townhouses, it's clear that Guerre is a very talented, almost underrated artist.

So what would it be like to hear such dignified tracks find the hands of other groups and artists? Well, the answer is here.

Melbourne duo FORCES and US soloist PARISIAN have each taken a Guerre track and worked with it in a way they found themselves comfortable with. The results are very different to how the originals initially sounded and allow us a completely new perspective of where Guerre's music can potentially go.

The first track of this remix package is Guerre's 'Rashad (Loose Place)' and has been taken on by Forces.

Originally a super slow jam comprised of harmonising between male and female vocalists, fidgety samples and gentle instrumentation, Forces has totally turned the track on its head as the duo have completely made it their own.

Once you hit play, you're immediately introduced to a completely new track. Being a synth based outfit, expect a lot of electronic-based sounds in this remix, as they've wiped away all of the gentleness that the original track maintained. In fact, the only element you'll find in both this remix and the original version are Guerre's vocals.

The other half of this package is Guerre's 'For Qwanisha', remixed by Parisian.

Another soft, evoking artwork, Guerre's 'For Qwanisha' plays with a very sensual soundscape. This track leaves you on the edge of your seat, due to the way the track teasingly dips itself into a pool of electronic energy.

Placing Guerre's version next to Parisian's remix enhances the playfulness of the original track. This is due to the shift in mood that is accessible in the mix. There's a lot of synth crashing and hollow beats that have been stretched out extensively in this version, creating an ambient, almost ethereal vibe. At the same time, it almost sounds like a tune that can be found in a scene of a film representing a lost battle, as the track has ultimately encapsulated a feeling of hardship and loss in the most serene way possible.

You can grab both of these remixes and original versions of 'Rashad (Loose Place)' and 'For Qwanisha' from Yes Please Records' BANDCAMP for a price completely up to you!
