Live Review: PREMIERE: Guerre 'For Qwanisha'

29 November 2012 | 4:30 pm | Tom Hutchins

You may remember the Guerre from our last premiere for his track ‘Rashad (Loose Pace)’. Now we’re here to bring that single’s B-Side – ‘For Qwanisha’.

Seriously Sydney, what the hell are you putting in your water? The amount of awesomeness to come out of your state in terms of Electronic creations is ridiculous. So far we’ve seen amazing releases from Collarbones, Fishing and more – and now GUERRE is back with a killer new track.

Oh and did we mention that we’re pretty stoked to be premiering it for your enjoyment? Well, we are. So get excited. You may remember the Toronto born/Sydney bred beats maker from our last premiere for his track ‘Rashad (Loose Pace)’. Now we’re here to bring that single’s B-Side – ‘For Qwanisha’.

Guerre’s enigmatic music has been labelled everything from neo soul, avant ghetto to Lo-Fi R&B. He weaves ambient synths and dark syncopated beats with his soothing falsetto - and this track is a perfect example of all of this.

‘For Qwanisha’ is a dark and seductive tune, swirling in a world of deep synth lines and warm atmospheric layering. As the name suggests, the vocals are swooning for someone (possibly Qwanisha?), “I want to be close to you” echoes throughout the track and helps add to the all encompassing sound that Guerre is becoming more and more known for.

He’s certainly becoming the closest thing we have to James Blake in this country and we couldn’t be happier about it.

‘For Qwanisha’ is out now as a part of the ‘Rashad (Loose Pace)’ 2 track download through Yes Please, with a more substantial release to follow in early 2013.
