Live Review: REVIEW + STREAM: Elizabeth Rose 'Crystallise' EP

11 October 2012 | 9:00 am | Rebecca McCann

Having been compared to the likes of BJORK, Sydney-sider ELIZABETH ROSE had big boots to fill. Her polished electro-pop EP 'Crystallised' manages to do so.

Having been compared to the likes of BJORK, Sydney-sider ELIZABETH ROSE had big boots to fill and an epic preceding reputation to live up to at the outset. A stroll to Triple J Unearthed galvanises her credibility with five stars and glowing reviews all over the shop.

Warning: the following pun is totally cheeseball-factor-plus but totes intentional (and so forgivable, yes?). I gave in to ROSE's Crystallise EP immediately. That is to say, I gave in within the first minute of opening track 'Give In'. I did warn you.

Without pausing for long enough for me to forget I was listening to an A-grade indie-electro artist, 'Ready' storms through my headphones and into my consciousness where it incidentally already was. It turns out it's familiar to me al-READY (see what I did there?), having received high rotation on the J's. 'Stars Ago' is peppered perfectly with retro synths and ROSE's sweetly soulful vocals.

I'm excited. Not just for the glorious weather Melbourne is having that indicates Summer is around the corner (YES). I'm also excited for this brand of indie electro-pop that is becoming easier to find and especially out of Sydney, I might say (I'm thinking FLUME and RÜFÜS).
