Live Review: WIN: Yeasayer 'Fragrant World' Vinyl x 2

6 September 2012 | 3:00 pm | Tom Hutchins

Yeasayer have decided to give away a couple of vinyls of their new album away for the loyal Purple Sneakers readers. It’s all just too much.

Oh YEASAYER we love you. Not only have you just released your brand new album, Fragrant World, to worldwide critical acclaim. You’ve also decided to give away a couple of vinyls away for the loyal Purple Sneakers readers. It’s all just too much.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Yeasayer’s latest full length, we’ve already given it the Sneakers review treatment. But just to fill you in, it passed with flying colours. In our own words, “In true Yeasayer fashion their new album Fragrant World is exactly what you’d expect. Because it contains the totally unexpected.” The band’s unique take on what is electronic music must be admired, as they stepped it up in all aspects across the LP – destroying any conceived notions that they were heading down a mainstream path after Odd Blood.

On top of this, a new clip has just emerged for their latest single ‘Longevity’. And albeit not the most exciting clip we’ve ever seen from the band, it definitely captures the essence of what Yeasayer are about on this new release. Following the band around a recording set-up in a church, they smash out the song with all the energy and quirkiness we’ve come to love about Yeasayer – but with a twist. As the song progresses, lead singer, Chris Keating's, age progresses also, to the point where he is nothing but a skeleton with a beard.

It’s that kind of creepiness and odd nature that is Yeasayer all over.
