Live Review: LISTEN: Benjamin Gibbard 'Teardrop Windows'

3 September 2012 | 12:54 pm | Lauren Payne

Death Cab, Pinwheel, All Time Quarterback and Postal Service member Benjamin Gibbard has launched a new single ahead of his new solo album

BENJAMIN GIBBARD has done many things in his time. Whilst being lead singer of DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, a band that you’d listen to whilst crying over a break-up or really just crying about anything, he has also lended his songwriting and vocal skills to a variety of bands such as PINWHEEL, ALL TIME QUARTERBACK and THE POSTAL SERVICE and even tied the knot with one of the cutest women on the silver screen, Zooey Deschanel

Now although his marriage to Zooey Deschanel didn’t last (so very depressing), BENJAMIN GIBBARD’s musical genius hasn’t suffered at all, and how do I know this? Because he has a solo album due for release in October containing unreleased songs he has written during the course of his musical career. The album is called Former Lives, which considering the tracks origins, is actually quite a fitting name. The 12-track release will also contain some reworked versions of some tunes you may have heard live, if you were lucky enough to catch DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE play, and he’s also releasing the LP as BEJAMIN GIBBARD instead of BEN GIBBARD, as I’ve referred to him as for years. Embracing our name are we?

The first single from the album ‘Teardrop Windows’ has been released, and it really sounds different to his other works. DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE was a band that played songs that would help you wallow in your sorrows, and   this song is quite uplifting and kind of catchy. The acoustic guitar is light and there are harmonies galore giving ‘Teardrop Windows’ a vibe that everyone will love.

You can stream the single from Soundcloud now but unfortunately, you won’t be able to buy Former Lives until its release on October 15 or 16 (depending on your location on this great Earth). So for now, just enjoy the preview.
