When I was asked to write about these guys I was absolutely stoked. Seeing VIOLENT SOHO on their support tour for ARCTIC MONKEYS in early 2012, gave me an extremely imperative opinion of the band. Their definitive, grunge rock sound was extraordinary, they really knew how to play their own sound and make everyone hear it.
With the release of their 2008 LP, ‘We Don’t Belong Here’, VIOLENT SOHO saw a huge response from not only their fans, but also their respected idols. Touring with bands such as DINOSAUR JR, and THE BRONX saw their profile’s amongst the world stage lifting. The first single off of the LP, ‘Jesus Stole My Girlfriend’, was welcomed with such a boom, it debuted at number 21 on the Billboard Alternative Charts. A fantastic achievement in itself by the Brisbane boys. An LP due for release in 2013 is currently in the works, and is very much anticipated to be an exciting album, with a new single ‘Tinderbox’ expected to be released in late August.
With the fantastic achievements and status held by the band, comes an even bigger future for the band. Whilst VIOLENT SOHO are still due to release new stuff, it is also imperative to say that the band has switched and is proceeding to release new tracks through the Melbourne label, I OH YOU RECORDS. The I OH YOU team is stoked to have the boys on board, with comments from Johann Ponniah being “I can’t express how psyched I OH YOU is to welcome VIOLENT SOHO to our label roster and we look forward to being able to share their music (which rules) with you in the near future.”
Get excited everyone, VIOLENT SOHO are back, and by the sounds of it, with something huge.
