Live Review: LISTEN: STARS ‘Backlines’

13 August 2012 | 1:30 pm | Allie Speers

Stars' 'Backlines' houses a serious and successfully catchy melody, one that I would be happy to have in my head on replay

Firstly regarding STARS' ‘Backlines’… I want to share this comment I found on their soundcloud page. “This song makes my hear happy.” (This is not a joke, nor is it a vocabulary drill.) To the upmost of possible seriousness, this unknown literary genius has summed up my complete opinion on this most excellent of tunes.

This song does indeed, ‘make my hear happy.’ The track houses a successfully catchy melody, one that I would be happy to have in my head on replay; and some necessary serious bits that just lift it to that other level. Did you catch that little harmony in the chorus? It’s magnificent. Without a doubt ‘Backlines’ is one to keep… and share of course because sharing is caring.

‘Backlines’ is the third single to be released off their forthcoming LP ‘The North’. The album has been collecting quite a bit of hype recently, following the release of ‘The Theory of Relativity’ and ‘Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It.’ Already indie-pop veterans, STARS are continuing to live up to our expectations, and ‘Backlines’ is no exception.

P.S Did anyone catch the band's now infamous set at the Phillip Island Pyramid Rock Festival in 2008/9 when they stormed off stage halfway through their performance after the keyboardist copped a full bottle of beer in the face?

P.P.S they’re Canadian. (Hold for applause.)
