Live Review: LISTEN: Bon Iver 'Beth/Rest' (Work Drugs Remix)

BON IVER has to be one of my favourite acts ever - Justin Vernon's calm and comforting vocals are the perfect soundtrack to end your day matched with a beautiful sunset and a warm tea, you'd be in a place pretty darn close to heaven.

BON IVER's latest self titled album is one to be played when you're in the mood to just snuggle right into your doona. It was well worth waiting for my old high school desktop to slowly download the album from iTunes once I heard a classmates rendition of 'Roslyn'. The entire record was recorded in a small cabin in the woods and I must say, 'Towers' and 'Perth' have been played many times since that fateful day on my desktop.

'Beth/Rest' is featured on the album and uses atmospheric synths and a dreamy guitar riff to create a song that could be just about the loveliest thing since fairy bread, and now, thanks to Imbada Music and their 'Bon Iver Remix Challenge', there are plenty of killer remixes being made for the song.

Imbada has given BON IVER fans the chance to remix 'Beth/Rest' to win $1000 and be featured on the Spotify remix album, and WORK DRUGS has created a remix well worthy of the honour (Head HERE to get your hands on the official stems).

WORK DRUGS is a Philidelphia based 'sedative-wave/smooth-fi project' (as they describe themselves) and they have added a solid drum beat and a few more synths to create a remix that makes you want to dance but not too much as it retains the calming atmosphere of the original. The group travelled to a small cabin in a wooded area of The Poconos to find inspiration for their remix, and recorded it with a 10 year old Parkcard Bell they found on the side of the road, and an outdated version of Windows Sound Recorder.

Although the 'Remix Challenge' doesn't close until August 30, the WORK DRUGS remix is available for download on their Soundcloud and you can also vote for them on the Imbabda website. So listen, take a seat and drink that tea because you're in for a lovely time.
