Live Review: REVIEW: Flight Tonight EP

13 July 2012 | 12:00 pm | Staff Writer

Melbourne band Flight Tonight have released a juicy little 3-track EP for us to sink our teeth into. Jess Holton gives us a preview...

The debut EP from Melbourne based producer FLIGHT TONIGHT is comprised of three tracks that all hold a beautiful, minimal quality to them.

‘You’ is sensual in its delivery and features tiny keys to compliment the smooth as honey vocals. It is a slow jam designed to incite a hypnotic state in which you ask yourself, “What you saying to me?” The tattered layering of synth and drums seem to leave marks down your back as the track slowly builds into the discreet climax of the song.

‘From Me’ holds a similar quality to the previous track. The tune is minimal, though made intoxicating by the running synth. The screeching of the backing beat remains to be the stand out of the track, leaving the lyrics to play their own down-tempo part.

‘Never Not’ is a welcome change from the previous two tracks. The synth careens upward and overcomes the listener as a whole host of new sounds build. Heavy breathing intertwines itself with the kickstand of a drum and allows this track to become original. You can already hear the scratching of the remixes of this stand-out tune.

If you love beats that rise higher than SNOOP DOGG on an overcast day - you will LOVE FLIGHT TONIGHT’s EP. Go listen.
