It may not be summertime in Aus, but it's still a pretty beautiful day to listen to Julian Plenti aka Interpol's Paul Banks.
Solo stuff from that dude from Interpol!?! That’s all I ever wanted! No but really, PAUL BANKS’ new EP, as his alter-ego Julian Plenti, Julian Plenti Lives… is a collection of morose indie tracks.
Ripe with desolation, fluctuating tempos and the occasional anguished yelp, this album is worth a spin or eight in your CD player/Xbox/Macbook.
Want to know a fun fact about Banks? He was inspired to become a musician by you guessed it, Nirvana. Oh and he’s also a hip-hop DJ, DJ Fancypants. Enjoy that.

‘Summertime is Coming’ is a buzzing track. The song rises and falls in a surprising and really interesting way, changing from groaning lyrics over a scaling guitar sriff to sullen acoustic verses. Every section sounds different and feels brand new. I love the way he’s experimenting with sound and style and really seems to be going to new places, more like his early stuff with Interpol. Banks may be a sad panda, but he sure is a talented one. Shit I just want to listen to his back catalogue for the rest of the day. Sounds like a plan.
Julian Plenti Lives… is out now. And a new full-length album is due out at the end of the year.
