Grimes Announced For Meredith 2012

18 July 2012 | 3:00 pm | Tom Hutchins

Announced earlier this morning, Grimes will join the 2012 Meredith Music Festival alongside The Sunnyboys and more yet to be announced.

The beloved Australian music festival season is well and truly upon us.

With Big Day Out, Falls, Stereosonic and Harvest all producing massive lineups, we're seeing the likes of The Flaming Lips, Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective gracing Australian arenas over the summer period. And now we're stoked to see that Meredith Music Festival has dropped the names of two acts appearing in their super amphitheater later this year - especially when one of these acts is Glitch Pop princess, GRIMES.

Announced earlier this morning on Melbourne radio station Triple R, Grimes will join the 2012 Meredith MF alongside The Sunnyboys and a myriad of other acts still to be announced. This is welcoming news to anyone who is a fan of Claire Boucher's work, after months of speculation of where and when the Canadian would be visiting Australia for the first time - including one heavy Harvest rumour.

You may have already realised that we really love Grimes here in the Sneakers office, but we're definitely not the only ones. Since the release of her 4th album, Visions, earlier in the year -some of the most tastemaking critics as well as some of the most unexpected have given Boucher rave reviews. Whether it be The Age, Pitchfork, NME or even MX (like they have any authority) - everyone has fallen in love with the complex electronic beats, angelic vocals and R&B influence that flows throughout the album.

If you are feeling that this announcement is already enough to make you want to venture to the northern regions of Victoria for one of the most niche Festivals Australia has to offer. The ballot is now open - head to www.mmf.com.au to enter and check out what Aunty Meredith has in store for you this time around.
