Live Review: WATCH: The Laurels 'Changing the Timeline'

19 June 2012 | 11:30 am | Hannah Story

The Laurels' new clip makes us question our own identities with super psychedelic effects and all the garage we can wrap our lips around.

In honour of the psychedelic/ garage effortless cool, we’re going to talk THE LAURELS new clip, ‘Changing the Timeline’ in a weird way. Weird, not unlike the shifting close-ups of instruments and mouths, shifting stock footage of destruction, and the special effects of this Spod- directed piece of gold. The track comes from their forthcoming debut, Plains.

This clip and this song takes us back to our glory days in our youth. When we thought we could make film clips and write songs, but they invariably involved stock filters and the same chord played over and over. What we created then has nothing on this. Nothing. This clip is a total wig out and is perfectly fitting. They, you guessed it, change the timeline.

This clip makes us question the life that we’re leading; it is fruitless, it is endless, it is perfect so long as we have garage. We are forced to pay more attention to how nice boyfriend’s hands are when they grip that glass of juice, and to the cracks in our own lips, as surveyed in cracked bathroom mirrors. Spectral.

Do you want to see this roaring track played live? Head to the Rice is Nice party July 1, featuring The Laurels, Richard in your Mind, Spod and Straight Arrows. You might just bump into some Sneakers writers (ME?!?) there.
