Live Review: LISTEN: Toucan 'Mr. Television'

29 June 2012 | 1:30 pm | Staff Writer

Toucan took on Peats Ridge and won. Now see them support The Jungle Giants and be impressed.

To some, it is a species of bird, but to others TOUCAN is an exciting new prospect hailing from the suburbs of Sydney.

Jess and Shea created the outfit in the light of nothing more than a university project, yet after winning the Triple J Unearthed and Nida video competition, the pop two-piece saw themselves on the stage of Peats Ridge Festival earlier this year.

Following the release of their debut EP, Brave New World (featuring remixes from Lancelot and Purple Sneakers DJs) the duo are proving nothing short of attractive with their infectious new single, 'Mr Television.'

The seductive, sultry piano lines latch on to you almost instantly, but don't be fooled as you are soon to be introduced to a pop-frenzy explosion. The colourful song is a retro concoction of robust 1960s  RnB and soul, saccharin pop and just a hint of jazz. Although energetic and full of layers, this playful track is lyrically revealing a frustrating tale.

The track is a collaboration with Melbourne producer and mixer Tony Epsie (CUT COPY, THE AVALANCHES, MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS) and is available as a digital download on iTunes now.

To celebrate the release of TOUCAN's 'Mr Television', catch them with The Jungle Giants on JG'She's A Riot tour along the East Coast and Adelaide in August.
