Live Review: LISTEN: Iggy Pop and Ginger Baker 'Lonely Boy' (The Black Keys Cover)

Iggy Pop and Cream's Ginger Baker cover The Black Keys' smash-hit 'Lonely Boy.' It's just like them to add some classic punk edge to it!

The Black Keys are getting all of the accolades. All of them. Even a tribute album, Back on Blues: A Tribute to the Black Keys. Today we’re featuring the IGGY POP and GINGER BAKER cover of ‘Lonely Boy.’

Yes, that’s Iggy Pop from The Stooges and Ginger Baker from Cream. We’re going to be totally honest here. We have a minor old-dude crush on Pop. Why? Because he’s just so ripped still and he’s like 65. That’s old. And he can even strut his stuff on stage like no one else. But we kind of like the original a little better than this one. It’s probably because we really like The Black Keys (as in, we’ve got tickets to their gig in October). This song feels like it lacks originality and the real swagger we’ve come to expect from Pop and his tight tight pants.

So what are we going to do? We’re going to project all our aspirations for this song onto it, truths and untruths. Iggy Pop’s grimy voice sways over this song, backed by Baker’s fine guitar. The stripping back of the synth was definitely worth the endeavour, giving this song a more classic rock feel than it’s regular indie sound. The song swells with punk chutzpah. It’s all we’ve ever wanted.
