Childish Gambino combines forces with Beck to produce a dark tune you can picture listening to on a lonely, overcast day.

You may even be writing down your own rhymes on a scrap piece of paper on a bus (probably not the 333), on your way to 8 Mile while taking in this melody.

‘Silk Pillow’ features a range of instrumental accompaniments. For a song that has such gravely vocals, the flute and triangle lighten the mood, this could be down to Beck’s influence on the song.

The beats are warm as they send chills down the back of your neck while CHILDISH GAMBINO raps about, “trying to speak to some anacondas” and “turning traumas into nirvanas”. I think if we combined Anacondas and Nirvana, it would be the perfect video accompaniment to this song.

Piano builds the anticipation of the rising synth that follows and rolls like waves in the background. ‘Silk Pillow’ holds a mystique that sets it apart from the rest. The melding of an assortment of different genres, instruments and lyrics somehow work and leave you feeling haunted yet appreciative of this gloomy tune.
