Live Review: FLASHBACK: Wolf Parade 'I'll Believe in Anything'

1 June 2012 | 3:00 pm | Hannah Story

Wolf Parade get 1700s in this little track about ennui, and being an impressionable lad or lass. We believe anything you write, guys.

Get a bit 1700s with this ‘ere flashback. One of our favourite ‘00s indie bands, WOLF PARADE get you feeling the English aristocracy. Oooh, it’s like we’re in a super violent and historically inaccurate Jane Austen novel. Maybe Thackeray should've been my dead author of choice. Oh well. So it goes. Nevertheless, lots o’ people get shot in this easy tale of ennui.

I think what they’re saying is that being impressionable and kissing all the girls might get you shot by a cannon. I like to think that there was this much murder back then in the 18th century, but I think it might be a slight exaggeration. But just look at those sexy sexy wigs. Look at the big hair and the white pancake make-up. That’s a good look, damn it. Bring it back. Bring retro to it’s logical conclusion!

Yeah we just love Wolf Parade. It forces us to make cultural references most people wont recognise or care for. This whole album, Apologies to the Queen Mary was fucking killer. We remember sitting in our cool collaged bedrooms back in 2005 listening to it and over and over on a tiny hand-me-down stereo and feeling the synth and disillusionment run through our very cores. And it was awesome. It’s one of those songs that you listen to when you’re feeling a little bit sullen but you end up singing along and feeling empowered because someone else is also unhappy. Sometimes bellowing out the lyrics to songs by other melancholic fellows just makes everything better. Just like cannons sometimes solve problems.

INDEFINITE HIATUS WHY.
