Live Review: WATCH: Electric Guest 'This Head I Hold'

1 May 2012 | 10:30 am | Staff Writer

The new video for Electric Guest's 'This Head I Hold' may be one of the most random things we've ever watched, and it is amazing.

Featuring an eclectic array of rather peculiar dance moves, ELECTRIC GUEST’s video for their new track ‘This Head I Hold’ gives a definitive buzz to those who suffer from dance fever. After playing at SXSW this year, ELECTRIC GUEST are in for quite a year, with the release of their album ‘Mondo’ just weeks away. Adding to their already accumulative list of major festivals played in 2012, the boys are set to play at Splendour In The Grass in just a few months time.

The video features a pretty unusual take on the 'journey of self-discovery' trope. It begins with a set of auditions, but midway through the captivatingly endearing dance scenes, the main character bolts from the drab dance hall to what appears to be a desolate rural wasteland. This somewhat Amish scene unfittingly brings the main character to some twisted realisation, after hallucinating the judges' menacingly disapproving faces and falling in love with a lone young woman. He sprints back to the plain-Jane hall to perform a spectacular dance routine with magic tricks and (imaginary) props including a trampoline. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!? We have no idea, but we love how well it goes with the song. The infectiously upbeat tune features the simplest of rhythms, yet its continuity is what makes it so effective. Short and sweet, ELECTRIC GUEST have predictably pathed a huge future ahead of them.
