LISTEN: SBTRKT ‘Gamelena’

SBTRKT‘s most recent offering is more minimalist than his past work (see the full, energetic sounds of previously release ‘Surely’) – the first minute of ‘Gamelena’ is a simple throbbing beat, with the occasional snare. Tweeting bird-sounds open the track, interspersed with sci-fi pulsations.

The soundscape doesn’t get any more dense throughout the 3 minutes, a sparse electronic backbone that sounds like it’s craving some smooth vocals from the dude who brought us the incredibly catchy, hook-laden ‘Wildfire’, featuring LITTLE DRAGON.

Yet, ‘Gamelena’ is still a standalone funky slice of electro-dub, with a call-and-response type of back-and-forth multi-toned synth ping-pong.

The UK producer has released this taste of what’s to come on the EP/LP/whatever that he is currently hammering at in the studio to merely whet our appetites. Exciting times…
