Live Review: LISTEN: Bleeding Knees Club ‘Girls Can Do Anything’

Bleeding Knees Club tracks always seem to be about girls. Not that we're complaining. They make banging music & they respect women. Love it

Oh man, first it was ‘Have Fun’, then it was ‘Teenage Girls’ and now it’s ‘Girls Can Do Anything’. Brisbane boys, BLEEDING KNEES CLUB seem to peer over this ever accumulating collection of genres (garage/surf/pop/indie/thrash and there’s probably more), which probably has to do with the differentiation in sound between their EP ‘Virginity’ and their newly released LP ‘Nothing To Do’. Dropping like a wave, the LP came as a huge relief to fans alike, eagerly waiting to hear what BLEEDING KNEES CLUB have in store for the next year or so. A prime example of the direction BLEEDING KNEES CLUB are headed in can easily be extrapolated from their newest single off of ‘Nothing To Do’, titled ‘Girls Can Do Anything’.

Okay so who doesn’t love an intro that jumps headfirst into the first verse? With a fresh guitar riff, crisp drum beats, following a traditional surf-rock-beat and the oh so alluring voice of Alex Wall, what’s not to love! Echoing the song's title, a handful of female vocalists make an appearance on the track, emphasising the lyrics being dealt out and the surfy vibe BLEEDING KNEES CLUB deal so well.

Simply put, the song is about girls. Actually, most of their songs are about girls. Girls and the beach. Keeping this in mind, putting the actual track on loop really made me envision running into the sunshine of a warm beach, toes in the sand, hot chips in hand. The track is quite simple, with the effective repetition of certain riffs and melodies, yet the simplicity I think, is what makes it effectively one of BLEEDING KNEES CLUB’s catchiest songs to date.
