Live Review: STREAM: CFCF 'Exercises'

If ever there was a soundtrack to the feeling of winding down after a booze-filled holiday and settling back into real life- CFCF has it.

As the last strand of summer’s warmth retreats and our Uni Easter-break nears its end, the cool chills of a Melbournian winter paves the way for curling up in bed; wrapped in a doona and trying to study. If ever there was a soundtrack to the feeling of winding down after a booze-filled holiday and settling back into real life- CFCF has created it with his 8-track record Exercises.

That’s not to say it’s depressing, not in the slightest, the uplifting and graceful nature of the record is reminiscent of our own Oliver Tank or Guerre’s more ‘hopeful’ tones. Mostly instrumental, the lack of vocals doesn’t detract from the emotional viability of the record in the slightest.

It’s difficult to create music with feeling if you don’t add words, and even more difficult to create emotive instrumental music that people want to listen to. CFCF does just that, and Exercises will have you keep returning to the ‘play’ button, transporting you to that curled-in-a-doona-with-a-hot-cup-of-milo mindset.
